The patients seen in our free student-run clinics face many non-medical issues that hinder their access to healthcare. To assess these needs, we established a medical-legal partnership (MLP), which screens vulnerable patients for non criminal legal issues like food stamps, FEMA disaster benefits, employment, and housing problems. In partnership with Tulane’s School of Law and Southeast Louisiana Legal Service, we work to assist patients in receiving pro-bono or no cost legal advice and assistance.
